The Ancient Paths |
One
day while reading through my Bible, my attention was drawn to the following peculiar
scripture as being important:"Thus says the Lord, `Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is and walk in it; and you shall find rest for your souls.' But they said, `We will not walk in it.'" Jeremiah 6:16 As I began meditating on this verse, I wondered what the Lord meant by "the ancient paths". Here we are directed to ask for "the ancient paths". The first thing I did in my investigation of the passage was to look up the Hebrew word for "ancient" to discover its meanings. I found that the Hebrew word is "OLAM". Some of the meanings of this Hebrew word are: old, concealed, hidden, perpetual, eternal, timeless, from eternity. When I read the word "from eternity," something inside me jumped... This scripture passage further says that when you walk
in these paths, you will find rest for your soul. So many people today have very little
rest or peace on the inside. Life is a constant struggle and there is a continual torment
on the inside of many. God never intended for us to live in this way…" |

This is an excerpt from beginning of Craig Hill's book, The Ancient Paths. This book serves as the cornerstone publication of Family Foundations International, a Christian ministry which God raised up in 1985. This book not only reveals the meaning of God's "ancient paths," but also addresses key issues of "identity" and "destiny". Regardless of age, God intended for us to feel loved and have a deep inner knowing of who we are and where we are headed in life. For many, these issues are foreign to our way of thinking and we simply feel like wanderers on this planet without real direction or a sense of purpose. In addition, many of us have been raised by parents who, although intending to do their best, failed to communicate value to us at critical times in our lives. Instead of correcting our behavior while reassuring us that we are still loved and important, often we were made to feel unloved, worthless and of no value. The effects of this "cursing of identity" often carried on over into adulthood and we found ourselves striving very hard to succeed in order to grab hold of that elusive "blessing" we failed to receive as a child. The Ancient Paths is written for people who are trying to walk uprightly, but without success and for those who have given up hope and wandered far from the paths they once knew. Not long ago, everyone had a father, a family, and a future. It’s time to return to those days and re-establish these foundations in our nation. |
